2005/06

"lost" installation (click for photos and further expanation)
- a first attempt at my video installation in conjunction with "lost" and my MA degree.
- utilizing a small room, painted matt black, with a measured-off white matt screen to
  exactly match the projection.
- data projector, dvd player, left and right speakers, 10-minute PAL dvd
- floor covered in various types of 'decorative forest floor' bark and mulch, adding texture
  and scent.
- green tarpaulin overhead, holding in humidity, sound, and smells, keeping out light and
unwanted sounds. gives a sky or tent-like effect.

"lost"
- an extension of "ig-dre-zil (yggdrasil)" from 2002.
- this time, i am using the camera itself to physically explore the space instead of filming
  from afar.
- the title is a reference to my disposition as i get involved with the footage (shooting and
editing), as well as my hopes for the audience to ultimately experience a feeling of displacement
via a manipulation of their senses.
- inspired by preliminary experimentation with video installation during my time at UArts, i am
planning my own installation including vivid sound, video, and natural elements such as a floor
of moss and tree bark, and possible "trees growing" through the space itself.
- i would also like to provide logs or other similar objects for viewers to sit on.

"blupa"
- realised when walking home from the shop with a bottle of washing-up liquid. after shaking
the bottle and holding it up to the sun, i was mesmerized by the bubbles floating endlessly
up into oblivion. i am slowly purchasing different colours and filiming the bubbles.

2001-2002

"ig-dre-zil (yggdrasil)"
- the world tree, reaching into the realms of giants, elves, mankind, and the dead.
- i am exploring the lives and surroundings that trees make their own. they have the memory of
the worlds to tell, if you're willing to open yourself to it.
- this film is the first product of my delving into the subject. a film in-the-making with one 'complete'
version made solely to graduate. i was happy with it, but i am definitely doing a re-edit or three.
- shot on super 16mm colour negative film, transferred to dv, and edited online.

1999-2001

"the man who looked familiar"
- the Twilight Zone-esque collaboration between an old friend with an odd story and myself with
a film camera.  the plot concerns a man who is convinced he is being watched and recognized by
everyone. everywhere he turns, he is stared down and moved in on.
- a shaky but successful debut in editing plot, sound, and making a short story come together.
- shot on super 16mm black and white reversal film, transferred to vhs, digitized, and edited online.

" tasty plastic"
- an idea developed when a professor questioned my childhood tendencies to chew on toys.
determined to prove i was not alone, i went around interviewing fellow classmates. i uncovered what
promised to be a generation of children whose he-men had been gnawed upon.
- time quickly ran out, and i resorted to changing this would-be documentary short into a 30 second
trailer, chock full of my new-found adobe after effects skills. it was a success and i would still like
  to pursue this particular topic.
